December 2008 Newsletter

This is the eigth of my monthly news sections and you can expect to find information on new print releases and what's on the easel at the moment and hopefully the following month I will include photos of completed artwork. There may well be hints and tips on painting should you want to try painting yourself. I welcome any feed back; please send your comments or questions by e-mail and I will do my best to answer the following month in this section.

As of this month the newsletter will be changing from a monthly edition to a newsletter covering two months, it is regrettable but necessary due to time restraints, especially in the summer months when we are flat out preparing work for air shows and travelling.

News

So what’s new? Well the paint brushes have been working away furiously in the studio, I have had many commissions which need to be ready by Christmas. I did promise myself that I would paint an Autumn scene and this came in the form of this beautiful canal scene, this was a commissioned piece, which I really enjoyed painting. The client asked me to produce this painting from a photograph as it is one of their favourite canal boat journeys; I was able to enhance the scene by introducing beautiful autumn colours in the leaves, which gave wonderful reflections in the water. As this is one of my favourite landscapes I am hoping to have this image available as a small print in the New Year.

This small painting was a demonstration piece I worked on at the NEC in November, The sky was taken from a Norfolk scene I was able to capture a few month ago, with a very loose foreground, (not really knowing how it was going to look like finished) to add interest I included a hot air balloon which I feel adds calm and tranquillity. Although this painting is only 12” by 16” I am very pleased with the final result and again this image is available as a limited edition print.

The painting for the Royal Artillery is now almost complete, I will show you the completed image in the February –March Newsletter newsletter.

Paintings in progress

“The Grand Slam” you may have been following the progress of this painting in my earlier newsletters. I have as you can see, added another person talking to the Sergeant. The addition of the brown jerkin here, adds a welcomed spot of colour. Well I am pleased to say it is completed and is on its way to a collector in Australia. This print is also available as a limited edition litho print. The printers are working on this image now and will be available I hope this month.

The latest aviation commission I have been working on is a Halifax. This is also available as a limited edition litho print, further details to follow.

For the art tip this month I would like to draw your attention (sorry about the pun) to the DVD/ video The Art of Aviation. You can now see a preview of this production on my website under the Greetings cards and Gift section. Whether you are interested in picking up art tips or just an interest in the Battle of Britain aircraft, I am sure you will find it enjoyable to watch.
