The Lysander was designed as a short take off and landing aircraft especially useful for the delivery of S.O.E. agents deep in enemy territory. The Lysander was indeed the first aircraft to employ the use of fully automatic slats in the leading edge of the wings to aid the smooth flow of air as it passes over the wings at high angles of attack. Powered by the Bristol Mercury 850 h.p. XX radial engine, it was extremely quiet, and offered little pre warning of its approach. The print depicts a 161 sqn, aircraft out of Tempsford, a long journey for a Lizzie!
