Too Low, Too Slow

Too Low, Too Slow

Regular price £70.00

There was a lot of activity before the actual dam raids in the form of experimentation - testing to establish the optimum height, airspeed and rate of rotation of the 'Upkeep' mine. Believe it or not, the powers that be were still adjusting these parameter measurements just four days before the actual raids.

The image depicts Les Munro in his Lancaster AJ-W on the 12th May 1943 taking a smack up the bum from the massive and unpredicted force of the splash. In his own words this was probably due to the aircraft flying too low or too slow.

I hope the print will make a valuable addition to any enthusiast's Dambuster collection being rather an unusual slant on the all important build up to the raids.

Les Munro himself, hopefully all being well, will be attending the Dambusters event at the 'Aces High Gallery' on the 10th and 11th May 2008.

I have great pleasure in releasing a special edition of my Lancaster print "Too Low?... Too Slow?". Sgt. Eric Quinney agreed to sign a special litho edition having been the pilot of one of the original Dambuster film Lancasters 'P-Popsie'. Eric muses over payment for his involvement in the film, he was honoured with a free meal! I feel the 1955 film was a potted celebration of the Dams event with the associated adventure and heroism, maybe this signed film version of my print could represent the final inclusion of any Dambuster artwork collection.
