Painted whilst on holiday in the area, this image immediately caught my attention as we worked down the road to the bay. What fascinated me was the wonderful contrast between the middle ground buildings and the far away distance of the rocks. As the painting progressed it was nice to see the complimentary rugged foreground taking on an important part in the overall composition as well. The original painting was quite small, about 16"x12", but this is in fact one of my favourite canvas sizes for landscapes, although I regularly paint on canvases 30"x20".
