I personally think one of the nicer locations in the country to paint is the Peak District in North Derbyshire. On a painting trip to the area, I came across this wonderful scene. It was a cloudless day and very hot. The image represents a very rare painting where I haven't painted any clouds at all. I had to convey the impression of heat on the day. (I really don't know why there was smoke coming out of the chimney.) The impression of heat was accentuated by the shadows cutting heavily across the ground allowing me to express a massive difference in the temperatures of the area on the left (cool, draughty ) with the rest of the image (hot and dry). The man, dog and sheep were of my own invention, and added a little narrative to the final result.
