The English Electric Canberra was the very first jet bomber operated by the RAF and entered service on 25th. May 1951 and retired from the RAF in June 2006. Holding the world altitude record at 70,310 feet in the early fifties, it was capable of out manoeuvring any of its contemporaries and was an attractive export aircraft, having also a nuclear capability, photographic and electronic communications role.
