One of three ‘V’ bomber types, the Vulcan stands out as the most recognised and remembered of them all with its elegant delta wing configuration resulting in it being identified from many miles away. The Vulcan was originally conceived as a nuclear deterrent against Russian aggression during the ‘Cold War’.
Fortunately, every penny of the development and operating costs to the tax payer was worth it as the bomber was never used for what it was designed to do … launch a nuclear device. The deterrent worked.
