The Lancaster bomber during the war had to be looked after and maintained with the same attention regardless of the weather conditions. Crews worked in terrible conditions during the winter, with hands so cold, tasks had to be made possible. My time in the Royal Navy, many times on the upper desk in freezing weather, allows me to appreciate what they had to tolerate. The small hut to the right in the painting is their only refuge from the wind and cold. That Lancaster has got to be ready!
